Have you ever given a single thought about the trash that you are about to throw out? Has it ever occurred to you that the garbage bag in your hands right now might have the most valuable thing of your life? Naah! Who would think that? It is mostly forgotten in a day’s time. From there it is either destroyed or lost to time.
To be fair, most of it doesn’t really have any value.
Often it’s just yesterday’s leftovers or old boxes filled with junk.
Statistically, an average American throws about 100K pounds of trash in a
lifetime. However, you’d be surprised to know how much worth it can actually
possess.
There have been incidents of people throwing out
relics and rare antiques worth thousands of dollars. In some cases people have
actually thrown out thousands of dollars. Read on further to find out some of
the most expensive trash thrown out by people. Obviously they never got it
back.

Savings in a grocery bag: In 2009, an elderly woman had her
savings, 12000 pounds of hard cash in bundles, stored inside a shopping bag.
One fine day, obliviously she threw out this bag in the trash. Six days later,
after realizing what a blunder she had made, she called the waste management
team. The team began searching the landfills before realizing it was far too
late to get the money back. The cash is currently just sitting under thousands
of tons of waste, very likely smashed or ruined.

Cryptocurrency Catastrophe: Cryptocurrency currency
was recently highlighted in the news. This is for a good reason as within the
last few years the value of cryptocurrency boomed. Bitcoin, the most popular
cryptocurrency valued at about 19K dollars when it was at its peak. Not less
than a decade ago each bitcoin valued at 1 penny each. So when the value jumped
most of us considered it as a joke. During this time, a Reddit user won a
light-hearted competition and was rewarded 430 bitcoins. This valued at about
nor more than a couple of dollars at that time. He had saved the bitcoins on
his computer’s hard drive and forgot about them. Months later, in a fitting
rage of a gaming incident, he broke the computer and the hard drive along with
it. Eventually he had his drive replaced. Years later, he hears about the
bitcoin and at this each bitcoin values at about 500 dollars. This brings the
total worth of his bitcoins to about 210,000 dollars. Whoopers! In an effort to
recover his drive and the bitcoins he had the drive checked by professionals
but all went in vain.

Hiding gold in Trash Bag: A man from Calandra named Jeffery,
was so worried about his wife’s gold and jewelry being stolen, that he hid all
of them in a trash bag. He thought it would be a place where no one would
expect. Correct. In fact, he was so correct that he himself forgot about the
bag and one day threw it out in the trash. He realized his mistake days later
and by that time it was far too late to retrieve the golf back. The bag had
about gold worth 50000 dollars and was thrown out in the garbage just like
that. In an effort to fool the thieves, he actually fooled himself.

Inside a tire: When drug lords and gangsters are
extorting in huge amounts, they always make it a point to hide the evidence in
the most unexpected place. In this case it was the tire of a car. Near Indianapolis,
tiding up the roads, a few men came across a lone tire. Being a little
suspicious, the men ripped open the tire and to their luck found a 1000
thousand dollars stacked inside. The money was handed over to the police. The
police dogs found the scent of drugs over the money thus affirming the money
was used in an illicit trade. Obviously, no one claimed the money after that.

An old violin: This story is not per se about a loss
but about an awesome finding. In 2013, a man found a violin in a trash. At
first he decided to use the violin for spare parts hoping to fix his wife’s
violin. Eventually he brought the violin to an appraiser to see if it was worth
anything. He had no clue that he had stumbled upon a rare antique that was
valued up to 50000 dollars. The violin was actually handmade by an incredibly
famous violin maker.
Next time you’re about to take out the garbage, don’t
forget to take a peak first.
