Why Do We Need TVF Pitchers Season 2 More than Ever ?

There was a time when I used to feel sorry for the people who had not watched TVF Pitchers. And now I feel sorry for the people who have.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am in no way trying to undermine this revolutionary show that changed the outlook of web series in India. What I am trying to highlight here is, the plight of the Pitcher lovers like me and many others who have been eagerly waiting for Pitchers 2 for FIVE years now!

For those of you who still don't have a clue about TVF Pitchers, I am sorry to say but you have seriously missed out on a lot. It won't be wrong not to say, that this show was a trailblazer in the entertainment industry that paved the way for web series in India. Even after almost 5 years of its release in Oct 2015, it is one of the highest rated IMDB shows ever.

It was only natural that the first season created a wave of anticipation and excitement for the next season among everyone. In fact, Biswapati Sarkar, the writer of TVF Pitchers 1 (and Permanent Roommates), who is fondly known as the Arnab Goswami of TVF, had even announced the release of season 2 in Oct 2016 on Quora.  But of course that did not happen and now its 2020 and season 2 is nowhere to be seen.

So, what went wrong? Well one of the major reasons that eternally delayed and in all likelihood canceled the show (breaks my heart to even say the C word), would be the storm #MeToo allegations against the then CEO and founder of TVF, Arunabh Kumar, who also played the role of the vivacious Yogi Bhaiya on the show. In fact, Arunabh was the one who had conceived the idea TVF Pitchers and made it a sensation as we now know.

Even so, there are many fans like me who are hopeful and optimistically waiting for the much needed revival of this trend setting show. Here are 6 reasons why the world needs Pitchers Season 2

  • The premise of the show is undoubtedly outstanding. The tumultuous journey of 4 young entrepreneurs to manifest their "million dollar idea" into a reality is mind-bogglingly inspiring.

  • It is a perfect blend of drama and reality. Even though it was youth-centric show, the discernible portrayals of family values and importance of relationships surely wells us up and gives us the much needed touch of reality we Indians needed to feel.

  • The show captures the emotion of friendship in the best way possible. I am sure people who have watched the first season would agree that the sense of camaraderie was essentially revitalized by Pitchers.

  • The show restructured the notion of entrepreneurship completely in India. It had a befitting approach on entrepreneurial endeavors and the struggles associated with it. The limpid insights into the realm of pioneerdom were quite practical and appealing.

  • Although Pitchers 1 showed us many aspects of the entrepreneurial world, it failed to shine light on the idea/product that the characters were struggling so much for. It would be a pleasure to see how the makers reveal this pivotal part in Pitchers 2.

  • Given the current mood of the youth on Nepotism and evident inefficiency of most Indian filmmakers and under-performance of  "star kids", we are in desperate need such progressive shows with devouring content, brilliant direction, intelligent humor and flawless acting.

  1. This was the first ever web series I watched thanks to my bro who led me to this. What a fresh perspective it brought and new concept/ideas. Although I think season 2 is a great idea it will never match to the legend of season-1. It's like Sholay-II should never happen! Let it preserve the legacy :)
