Embracing The New Normal: Work From Home

The world is currently wrestling with an invisible enemy that has dug its claws deep in every corner. This unprecedented pandemic has compelled corporations around the globe to eventually implement the Work from home regime. Now WFH may not be a new phenomenon for many us but Working from Home during the coronavirus outbreak definitely feels like setting foot in unchartered territories. The reason being we haven’t really done this before for so long and we don’t really know for how long this might actually continue. So while we’re in the midst of such uncertainty wouldn’t it be advantageous if we found ways to make ourselves more productive and adaptive to this new culture. The below tips will certainly help us in embracing this new normal that our lives have come to.

Change Into Your Office Attire
This might sound like ostentatious since many of you are much comfortable in your jammies and you don’t see the point in wearing that nicely ironed pant suit accumulating dust in your closet but trust me once you get up, take a shower and get dressed like you’re about to head to your workplace, your mood and attitude completely changes for the better. You feel energized and fresh. Your mind subconsciously prepares you for your daily work tasks and for a second you might actually overlook the fact that you’re inside your house with your dog staring at you all along.

Better To Have Your Own Space
It also helps if you designate yourself a separate dedicated work place. Clear out that small junk room in your house that no one even accidentally wanders into and that you’ve been meaning to clean for ages but you just didn’t have the time to. Set up your new cute little home office and Voila! No more inadvertent interruptions and embarrassing moments during meetings and client calls.

Maintain your Working hours
While Working from Home can be relaxing and calming as you don’t to be on your toes at all times, it can get a little too relaxing for some of us. We might actually start taking things a bit casually and forget that home is actually our new workplace during office hours. It is very important that we match up to those solid working hours like we did back when we had to be physically present at office.

Make your virtual presence perceptible.
Since in person interactions are impossible and not recommended, it is vital that you maintain your value and sustain your impression in the virtual domain as well. Now that face to face conversations are out of the picture, you need to communicate via Emails and chats and audio calls and video conferences. Make yourself heard loud and clear during those sessions so that your team knows that they can count on you even during these unreliable times.

Breaks are Necessary
Chai breaks are not only for when you want to hang out and chill with your office buddies. They are actually an integral part of your entire work day. They help you unwind and unload some of the stress you’ve been dealing with during your day at work. So after you feel that you’ve achieved a milestone for the day or competed that super tough assignment, give yourself a pat on the back and go enjoy a guilt free break. Revitalize yourself and come back with a fresh mind to carry on with the same zeal and enthusiasm.

Keep Distractions at Bay
No matter how well you set up your home office or how impressively you get dressed for work, nothing will actually matter unless and until you actual focus on doing and completing your work. You can’t be staring at your laptop all day all the while thinking how you can beat your high score on Kwazy Cupcakes or what happens in the next season of Money Heist. That won’t work. You need to keep all such social media and gaming or any sort of distractions away from you and actually finish your work for the day. Prioritizing helps in this case. Make a schedule and stick to it and you’ll be amazed at how much spare time you have left over to work on your hobbies.
