While we all have developed a unique and convincing style of maneuvering what we say, we all have a tell. You may be the best liar in the world but there would be something in your behavior, your expression, your body language, your voice modulation or your eyes that just gives in the truth. Even compulsive liars let you know when they're lying.
Lying is not an easy task. Maybe, we millennials have gotten so used to it that we are now accustomed to the discomfort caused by it. But in a way aren't we all are looking for pathways to vent our emotions?
You have to trick your mind, suppress your inner conscience no matter how much it pricks, compromise your moral compass and believe for yourself that the lie is actually the truth to persuade someone else to participate in this dishonest misadventure.
And once you do, you revel in the momentary satisfaction that you get and enjoy a sense of accomplishment but what you don't realize is the wave of remorse that is waiting for you at the shore. Sure at first, it feels like you have made your point, that your work is done because now things are swinging your way, but you can only hope that you are prepared for the emotional ride you're about to go on next.
On the other hand, truth is naked. It is free and untethered. It does not bind you and once you walk this righteous path you don't have to worry about a single thing thereafter.
The truth may feel bitter in the beginning, but that's just the low before the high, the crass before the smooth, the pain before the pleasure. Truth is unburdening and relinquishing.
Nothing grabs the attention of people as a stark truth does because no matter how much you deny it, it is what it is and it is what will be. You can choose not to believe in it and may even try to bury it, but truth is like a seed it will find a way to unearth itself and be presented before you no matter what.
